Our next big plant sale is coming up ? it will be held in the Stirling Angas Hall at the Wayville Showgrounds on Saturday April 28th and Sunday April 29th.
Most plants will be in 75mm pots and priced at $5 each, with some species (including gum trees, wattles, grasses, sedges) priced at $4 and some selected varieties selling for $6. A small number of grafted plants (perfect for the collector) are priced at $20.
All plants are grown in south australia. Some of our members run commercial nurseries, others grow plants in their backyard ? all are members of the Australian Plants Society with experience of how different species perform under South Australian conditions.
A list of plants available will be posted on our website a week before the sale.
The sale starts at 10am sharp on the Saturday morning until closing at 5pm. Light refreshments are available. On Sunday the opening hours are from 10am to 4pm. We ask for a gold coin donation as entry payment ? all donations are put towards Society projects.
Workshops or interactive talks on a variety of subjects will be held during the afternoon.
A supervised children?s corner is set up so that parents can feel free to browse without distraction, and don?t forget to browse the stalls offering books, artwork and other items related to conservation, nature and Australian plants.
All these things are worth coming for, but we think the best part of our sales is the knowledge we offer. Bring along a sample of your soil for free pH testing, and advice on how to work with your soil type and the sort of plants worth trying. At the Help Desk we offer a computerised plant selection program ? specify a few features about soil, position, flower colour, plant height, and we can give you a list of species at the sale that meet these criteria. You can also use the computer program to search for a common name, or just ask one of our helpers.
Our Autumn Plant Sale offers the largest variety of Australian native plants in one place - this is a great opportunity to get plants to put in the ground with the Autumn rains, or to just come and find out more about the diversity of Australian native plants.
